Last week we published a video on our “Stop Bike Theft” campaign – recapping what we have done so far:

  1. Outreach: We launched a social media campaign, reached out to citizens, cycling organisations, local authorities and other urban entities. We attended several events to present our project, hand out flyers, talk to people and gather their opinions. In September, we held our public launch event to kick-off the project public launch event to kick-off the project  and on December 18th, we will hold another public workshop to present our research and work on solutions to bike theft, together with citizens. For this event, you are all invited to join!
  2. Research and data analysis: We analysed the official police data on bike theft in Barcelona in 2023 and presented the results at the public launch event in September.
  3. Policy outreach to decision makers: We have started a conversation with the local police. Additionally, we have reached out to the attorney general of Barcelona, with whom we aim to continue investigating the issue of bike theft through a high-level working group, including cycling organisations, the police and city planners in 2025.

We want to use this opportunity to invite everyone to our next workshop where we will present the results of the campaign and work together on finding solutions to bike theft: The workshop will take place on Wednesday, 18th of December, from 18-19:30h at BiciHub (Carrer Pere IV, 58-60, Barcelona). Please come and join us!

With the support of the IMPETUS accelerator program, this project has allowed us to start a much-needed conversation on bike theft with citizens, cycling organisations and local decision-makers. In 2025 we will continue the collaborations we have established over the past 7 months and keep working together against bike theft!

This project is developed by City Lab Barcelona and CUBIC Co-op, with particular support of Jordi Honey-Rosés, Eduard Folch, Gerard Castilla, Lola Chavez, Gemma Simón i Mas, Hèlene Ballart and Laura Heckmann.

The Stop Bike Theft campaign is funded by the IMPETUS program on Citizen Science.
