City Lab Barcelona

A research group in Barcelona that studies city dynamics using formal experiments and direct observation.

MISSION

We engage in applied research, direct action and partnership to learn about how cities work. Our mission is to generate applied knowledge that can accelerate the transition to sustainable urban planning and design.

We undertake research projects with at least one of the following elements:

Impact Evaluation

Work with city planners to measure their success in improving public space, safety or environmental quality.

Urban Interventions

Study real projects that are implemented in cities, either through our partners or developed ourselves.

Experimentation

Implement formal and informal urban experiments that use the city as a living laboratory for learning and discovery.

Direct Observation

Observe our city in order to understand its hidden dynamics and improve urban functions and sustainability.
